Send Nathan a PM if you're not getting seen properly at CF. You can always try Crown MINI in Richmond. For 1st-GENs: I've been researching lights alot lately. Sylvania Silverstar bulbs (H7ST) are good in color, but they only last about a year (tradeoff for brightness) and cost about $40/pair (about $36/pair at Wal-Mart). There are also Silverstar Ultras (H7SU2), which look at little more purplish (I think), but they will probably last even less time. PIAA Xtremes look nice. They claim 110W brightness while only drawing 55W. Outmotoring has a pair for $72.95. Not sure on how long they last. Don't fall for off-brand knock-offs with really high Kelvin ratings. 4000K is about the brightness of HIDs as it is. You actually want to go by lumens. One exception in particular I have seen, at least for high-beams, are OSRAM "Night Breaker" 64217 65W bulbs. It's an H9 bulb with an H7 adapter. 65W is not too high in taxing the wiring, as factory high and low beams are 55W. They run about $25/each. The OSRAMs are about 2100 lumens, vs. 1500 for Silverstars. It is possibly the high beams are H9 instead of H7 if you have HID factory low-beam lights. Fog lights are H11s. Here's a nice long list of part numbers for reference: Aftermarket Bulb Shop.

Personally, I've had Silverstars in every vehicle I have. Got em in the Camaro, the Super Duty and their sealed beams in the Jeep. All have been in well over two years. I'm very happy with them.

You've had better luck than I. Previous sets in my old '02 MCS lasted only about a year. And that is with making sure I did not touch the glass.

Did you happen to run across rear fog lights in your search? I want to punch out the black oval and put a red lens in like Kevins but I can't find them cheaper that $60. I thought he said they were about $20? I don't want to hook them up just for looks.

Be careful with that theory. VA state inspections require all lights on the vehicle to be in operating order. Accessory lights like those aren't required, so you could always just pull them out for inspections. But if they're in the car, they gotta work.

I think my price was for one light, so 40-60 would be about right. Sorry for the mis-information. I did run into trouble getting my state inspection, since mine do not work and are purely cosmetic. The inspector still passed me, but I had to explain that they were rear fog lights and not required in the US. I did try and install the Add a Brake light kit and hook them into the brake lights, but unfortunately I am not enough of an automotive electrician to make heads or tails of the wiring in my light assemblies. The 2009 set up was clearly different than the companies step by step directions. So the wiring sits uninstalled in my glove box... :(

Some sites to reference: Rally Lights - Carries many bulb sizes and makes. Also provides charts for comparison. Drive Accord Forum - Bulb Comparisons... HID (Xenon) 1st-Gen MINIs do have H9 bulbs as high beams. According to the Rally Lights chart, the regular halogens are rated at 2100 lumens, are 65W, and have a life expectancy of 500 hours. This is comparable to the Osram/Sylvania CP64217 H7 bulbs. Autozone carries the stock ones for $14.99 each, which is not bad compared to other options (e.g. Silverstar H7s). You can also opt for Hella H83357011 H9 65W bulbs. They are a little bluer in color. Can't find a lumen rating on these just yet. ... As for H11 fog light bulbs for 1st-Gens, the highest is the Hella H71071032 Optilux XB Series H11, but they are rated at 80W. A bit too high for my blood. The lumen count only jumps from 1350 to 1700, and the life expectancy drops from 2000 hours to 1300 hours.

OK, I ordered the OSRAM 64217 bulbs. Paid ~$26 each before shipping. I also bought Hella 100W H3 Xenon XB bulbs for my new driving lights.

The OSRAM 64217 bulbs came in today. OK... they are not an exact match to the Xenons. However, all I have to say is WOW! They are so bright! You would never need to run your driving lights if you ever installed any. And I'm still waiting on the H3 bulbs to come in for those. I can't wait to see them. You can order the 64217 bulbs here.

Those look like a possibility in the future. Yeah, I learned the Xenons only draw 35W. That's another reason they are so attractive.
