Okay, time for new tires on the Clubbie.

This time I went with the Continental Extreme Contact DW tires in a 215-45-17. The 215's were actually a little cheaper than the 205's. They look good so far. The Yokohama S Drives were pretty good and I was fairly happy with them. Decent grip and fair mileage as far as wear goes. We'll see how these do on the Blue Ridge Pkwy Tour.

Well, after 3000 miles and two rotations the Continental DW tires are doing well. Good grip and still very quiet.

On a related note I saw MC2 magazine has a big write up about the Yokohama S Drives. While the article makes them look good, I'll never own another set. They are inexpensive (as far as tires go) but you'll soon find out why, in my opinion. Though others have had, and continue to have success with them.

I'm glad you are having good luck with these tires as the 205 version goes on my car this Saturday.

By the way, they are very good in the rain. With 7K miles on them I'm still very pleased. I think you will be too!

Hi
I got new tires last August. They are runflats. When the tires were put on, i had them do an alignment. Two days ago i had my tires rotated. the back tires had alot of inside wear. Maybe you could call it cupping. I'm thinking the alignment was wrong. Where do you go to get an alignment?

mostly noise, both on my Clubbie and the kids MCS. Not to mention wet traction at about 6/32nds went to crap. I could literally crank in 90 degrees more angle into the steering wheel going around a wet off ramp without anything happening. Really un nerved Regina.

I really liked them at first, but really was disappointed after about 10K miles!

Thinking back, I remember you (and others) raving about them in the beginning. It's too bad they went off that quickly. Thanks for the report.

It is common to see slight outer edge wear on the front tires, mainly from turning.  It is very common to see wear on the inside of the rear tires on MINIs.  They purposely have alot negative camber to help in the twisties.  If you look at the back of a row of MINIs parked side-by-side, you will see this is with all of them.  Best bet is to rotate your tires every 5,000 miles or so to make the wear as even as possible.  And only go back-to-front.

In my experience, as MINIs are sports cars, I typically see 20-25K miles on a set of 40K tires.  That's the price you pay for performance.

Here's wheel alignment explained.

Thank you Jumping Jack Flash.
I appreciate your help.  I will keep them rotated although I havent yet put 5000 miles on this set yet. I live 3 miles from work :)  but your comment was very helpful.

Rotating back to front is only required if you have directional tires.  Otherwise alternate rotating front to back and corner to corner.

Thanks for clarifying.  I think I've had directional tires the whole time I have owned both my old and current MINIs.
