Okay, one of the big things in the UK is car shows. Well, MINI/Mini car shows. Not too many over here though. WE need to change that! Lets look at the situation. We have MINI's, both new and classic. We have some great venues for shows. (I have some great ideas, but I'll hold them for now) And we have some great people to help organize a MINI/Mini show.

So here's the question: Do we want to host a MINI/Mini car show?

We'll worry about things like format later. And there's always publicity, advertising, sponsors, vendors, entertainment, food and facilities. But we'll cross that bridge later. For now, Do we wanna do this?

Maybe a tie-in to Cars and Coffee CF event. It's a win-win. Lots of participants, free publicity, prizes, etc...

We can either do a MINI-only show, or we can see about catching up with one or more of the European car clubs.  I have a good friend and former colleague that is a huge Alfa Romeo fan and usually follows what goes on around the area.

Of course, the British Car Show in Williamsburg has already passed.  If memory serves, I went to another one around this time of the year in Williamsburg.  They parked their cars right on Duke of Gloucester Street to display for all the visitors and tourists to see.  I really liked that.

I think it needs to be a MINI only show. Classics too, when I say MINI. I like other cars, I just don't want to dilute the marque.

I think a smallish show this year, maybe October/November. Still not too cold in early Nov. The Ford Truck World club used to do a Toys for Tots show and we got 100+ vehicles. I'm not expecting that many MINI's, but maybe.

So it looks like a go. I'd like a few more comments before we pull the trigger and start the planning though.

We could do a fundraiser in conjunction, like the FM99 Christmas Wish Fund.  You just pay a fee to enter then we donate the money at the end.  It's a great cause and I love what they do for people and the military locally.  A good way to get a local radio station involved for the publicity.  I'm just sayin'.

Shawn

P.S.  I'll help with the set-up and getting this together.  Talked to the Rumble gang a few times now.

Sounds like a great idea! If a nice solid plan comes together. I can try my best to see about getting CF involved... But it would have to be solid with good numbers... So once things start rolling I'll see what I can do...

Great idea!

I'm going to through out some random thoughts....

Schedule it for August.

Have simultaneous charity events to benefit SPCA; FM99 Christmas Fund; CHKD Fund; Food Bank; Toys for Tots; & School Supplies.

We could designate various MINIs for each charity...fill 'em up with supplies/donations for a great visual.  For safety/security reasons, we could literally chain (covered chain, of course) a cash/check donation container to a front rim.

We could sell raffle tickets for various items such as:  oil changes; detailing; tire rotation; etc. etc.

We could contact various local businesses to setup booths for a small fee and all booth proceeds would be divided equally amongst the designated charities.

Put on those thinking caps, everyone!   111

I think if we get to many charities involved it will unfortunately get watered down.  But how about two, required entry is $20 or so and a new in the package toy.  The money raised goes to Christmas wish and the toys go to Toys for Tots.

I like that idea, then we show we aren't favoring one or the other charity, but like Shawn said, we don't over water down what we are doing.  Both are awesome charities in the area.  I remember a past Toys for Tots run we did and we got quite a few good toys for them.  Of course that would mean I have to actually fix the rock chips in my paint!  LOL

Nothing wrong with a good car show. Not crazy about too many charities. The Christmas Wish Fund is pretty dog-gone good, and garners a butt load of attention from the FM99 crowd. That along with the fact it's a long standing tradition in this area, I believe this could get a large turn out to look at the cars.

I am concerned about actual "MINI/Mini turn-out". I'd like to see a huge showing of cars, no matter what condition there in. Clean 'em up, put on a coat of wax and let 'em rip. Most folks who attend a show like this understand you'll have everything from daily drivers to trailer queens. No need for anybody to feel left out if there a chip in the paint or a faded spot. Just proves your using it.

Dale, I'm all for this. October or November is an excellent time frame if the Christmas thing is agreed to. The weather is so much more tolerable than too. If an entry fee is required, make it $10 bucks tops. You don't want to price out potential attendees. That'll also provide them the chance to spend money on other things they could take home with them (memories).

Funny, I was just looking at some old "Pride Run" 1 & 2 T-shirts and was wondering, what could we do to bring out a large crowd without having to drive all the way to bum fart Egypt ??? Then this thread popped up. Good luck, I'll be watching this and when suggestions pop into my head, I'll be sure to add my input.

Okay, been doing some thinking on this one. My intent was to do a MINI/Mini show this year. Something simple, just us and a few out of towners. The idea is to spread MINI/Mini knowledge to the general public. I have a few ideas of locations. Something very public so we could get some good publicity. Then, if things went decently, we'd have a bigger event next year.

I mean of we can get 10 to 15 MINI's at the Pub on a Wednesday, why couldn't we get 30+ at an actual show. We'd have to get some trophies and some door prizes. Some sort of scoring would be needed, 'I'm pretty open on that. Just not looking for a white glove concourse de'elgance (or however it's spelled). I've actually seen them use a Q tip on the seat tracks and a white cloth on the telescoping antenna's to score cleanliness at a Porsche event! None of that for us!

Of course my first choice for location would be the Pub parking lot closest to Outback. Easy access control. My only concern would be insurance coverage. Not sure what theyt' require. Might be possible to get the Pub involved.
