Hey all, Bob and I are trying to find Walkie-Talkies to use on the vineyard trip, and after purchasing one set and looking at several others, we're sort of stumped!  We can't seem to find any that state they've got the "subchannels," though we did find some that talked about "privacy codes..."  The ones we got are these: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10206407____SearchResults.  Are these the right ones?  If not, can someone suggest some?  Thanks and see you all on Saturday!

If I'm not mistaken, the type you show will only receive conversations from others with the privacy codes but you won't be able to transmit to them.   I have the Motorola Talk About with the privacy codes in the $80 range but I'm sure you can find some at a lower cost.  I believe Dale mentioned something about sam's club having radios with the privacy code in the $40 plus range.  I'm sure someone will chime in soon with more information.

The quickest way to tell is to look at the channel display. If you see the larger digital display then see the smaller display below, or beside the larger display. That indicates the sub channels. Bass pro also shows these units. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10202758_250002001_250000000_250002000_250-2-1

I got a great set at Sams club, but they don't carry them anymore.

Office Depot has these

Radio shack shoes these, though personally I'm not a fan of the shack.

These are the ones I have and I like them, though one did get a broken speaker. I'd buy another set in a heartbeat! You can find them on ebay but that won't help you for this weekend. Try to borrow one this weekend and order what you really like.

Okay thanks for clearing that up for us... we actually looked at the Radio Shack ones, but weren't sure, and Bob saw one of these at Bass Pro, so we'll exchange the ones we have for those, no problem.  Thanks again!
