For anyone interested, DTP Racing in Chesapeake is having another Dyno Day on Saturday, October 2nd. I will be making an effort to go. For a map to their shop, click on the "Location" link in the upper right-hand corner of the link below. DTP - Dyno Day

Thanks for noticing, Dave. Yes, that map references their old location. Here is an updated map: Map Quest - DTP. The "star" marker is not exactly overtop the building. Bear to the right around that bend on Greenbrier Circle, then take a left to get around the front of that large U-shaped complex (the one with the brown roofing). As cars are put on the dyno, you will eventually go around the back.

As I stated, DTP has moved to Va. Beach. Their new address is 3642 Holland Rd. Suite 104 Va. Beach, VA. 23452. It's near the intersection of Holland and S. Rosemont Rd.

Hmm... when did the move? Last time I went by was in late November last year, and they were still at the address I indicated.

OK. I read through their forum. It appears DTP moved about five months ago. That explains the grand re-opening.
NOTE - Please ignore the extra posting with the reference to Chesapeake. FIRST POST STANDS; map referenced on their site indicates current location. The location on Holland Road is where Cottman Transmission is or used to be.

Seems to happen to me all the time. I know I'm talking because I can hear my own voice, but no one else seems to be listening

OK, so I went on Saturday. Personally, I'm a little disappointed my results were not a bit higher. However, I don't have a baseline to go by. They don't call the Dyno Dynamics system the "heartbreaker" dyno for nothing. I'd like to go again. Maybe a couple of you would go along for some comparisons. Different dyno systems show different figures. Many of the higher readings you see on NAM were done on a Dynapack setup, which has the wheel hubs bolted directly into the system. I'd really like to put my MINI on one of these to see how it compares. You can read more on my results here: NAM - Post Your Dyno Charts.

WTF!? All the mods and you ended up with a little better then the stock figures to the wheels?. I call bull$h!t. This is why ive been hesitating to get my car dyno'ed. How do you know which to trust. With the numbers ive seen, your car could dyno as much as 25-30hp plus or minus depending on the dyno they use. Thats a big spectrum. How do you know which one is true? And why cant the dynos read the same numbers?

From what I gather, there is no standard to calibrate to. Granted, if you take one car to every dyno then, and only then, would you have something repeatable. Of course the alternative would be to buy dyno time at several different dynos. Personally, I don't give a rats arse what HP I'm making. If it feels good great, if not, mod something. The seat of the pants (otherwise known as the Butt Dyno) is the payoff. A dyno is only good for one point in time in a controlled environment. Different temps, different fuel and so on can make a major difference.

As I have learned in my readings, the Dyno Dynamics setup is called the "heartbreaker" dyno. It tends to read lowest of any of the setups out there. Dan, that's why I want to go to the Dynapack setup. That seems to be the preferred one on NAM. I feel my results on that would be more comparative. On another note, this article uses a Dynojet 248C: MINI Cooper Street S Project. After all the mods and tuning, they were only able to get 191 HP. If you read my NAM post, my figure, when compensated for a DynoJet setup, comes out to 199 HP. With that, I'm 8 HP above the Project results. Dale, I agree with the butt dyno. Numbers don't mean everything. As I said before, I did not have a baseline to compare to. However, if I decide to get an upgraded head and cam next year, now I do.
