I'm currently running 205/50R16s and would like a wider shoe & slightly taller sidewall...wondering if any of the following sizes would fit without causing problems:
215/55R16 215/60R16 225/50R16 225/55R16 225/60R16
Schultze is a 10/2006 Justacooper with Megan Racing Coilovers.

Here are some numbers for ya a 205-50 will average 24.1 inches tall, have a section width of 8.3 and a tread width of 7.2. That's the stock tire size for ya.
a 215-55 will average 25.3 - so that's out. it's an inch+ taller. a 225-50 is almost 25 inches tall, so I wouldn't suggest that either. a 225-55 is nearly 26 inches tall, so no there either.
You can generally go one size wider without too much trouble, Remember, the 50 is the aspect ratio of the tire. It's 50% of the width, which is 205mm or 102.5 mm of sidewall. A 215-50 will have a sidewall height of 107.5mm, or 5mm total height change. Now remember that's factored into the overall height. With the axle in the middle of the wheel, the difference is split between the axlle height and the top of the tire. While the top of the tire will be a total of 10mm higher, it's really 5mm below the axle and 5mm above the axle. So the car, in theory will sit 5mm higher.
Now, as you go wider, the wheel width needs to be increased as well to keep the tread from bowing by the beads being on a narrow wheel. The center of the tread will usually wear faster. Most 205's are happy in a 6.5" wheel. You can also put a 215 on a 6.5 but a 225 will be more comfortable on a 7"wheel. But it can be done. I bought a Duster years ago with 275's on a 7" wheel. The inside and outside edges of the tire literally didn't touch the ground.
I'd suggest a 215-50-16. They average a height of 24.4 a section width (sidewalls) of 8.7 and a tread width of 7.6. It'll look a bit bigger and still fit well. I went to 215-45-17's on the clubbie from 205-45s and couldn't be happier.
And don't forget, when you go taller with tires, you decrease the overall gear ratio for the final drive, which can effect performance. I have 31's on my Jeep and stop light starts take more "umph" and I hardly see 5th gear anymore.

I agree with Dale on the tire recommendation. According to the tire size calculator, the increase will only offset your speedo by ~1.6%. Just not sure on the 7.6" width unless he's accounting for the actual road contact surface. 215mm / 25.4mm (per inch) = 8.46". And each sidewall would increase from 4.03" to 4.23", for a total of 8.46" as well. A 50 profile makes calculations easy; just divide by half (or multiply by two, whichever way you are going).
If your rims have a diameter of only 6", that's about as big as you want to go. If you have 7" wide rims, you could technically go larger.

Ok. Looks like I'm going to stick with my 205/50R16s on the R84 X-Lites.
Thanks, guys!

Even with all that confusing information, you could safely go with the 215's.

I have to stick with the 205/50R16s because the Fuzions aren't available in 215/50R16. However...I am open to other brands. What are you running, Dale? Adam? Anyone else?

Don't get Yokohama S-Drives. They stick well but they get noisy FAST.

I'm on my 3rd set of Hankook tires. Great grip without the road noise, even after 20K miles. I prefer the Ventus V4 ES', but they are being phased out (if not already). I'm currently on the Evo V12 K110s. The compound is a little softer, so they won't last as long.

If you go with Hankook, Pep Boys has the deal right now of Buy 3 Get One Free. You have to buy four tires, warranty on each, and get a full alignment to get the deal. Plus up to $30 off. Here's the coupon:
