Yes it is. I haven't been there in awhile so I don't know what shape it's in. There is only a pot-a-potty there. There is usually a hotdog stand there too called The Red Onion. I don't know if they will be there either.

This is nowhere close to ACU4, much smaller and has no scheduled maintenance. It's on the old Coast Guard air field where they used to tie down the helicopters.

This was the first place I ever autocrossed and several don't go anymore due to the condition it's in. Me I don't care It's small and technical and challenges every driver no matter what car they are in.

I hope to see some of you there.

At one time, back in the 80's, Pungo was THE place to autocross. It had lots of open concrete, a banked sweeper in the back side connecting the two runways and plenty of run off room if you got a little too carried away. But with it being WWII era concrete, it really has fallen into disrepair. Last time I was ODR's autocross chairman, we'd lay out the course just to miss the potholes and cracks.

Like LeLane said, it's still very technical but they try to make the runs longer and that requires overlapping the course and making multiple laps. Doing so requires one to pay even more attention and doesn't allow for multiple cars on course for the most part. Which makes for a long day, but thankfully, not many people show up.

The sad part is that Langley Speedway approached me a couple of years ago about doing autocrosses there. The powers that be at ODR didn't want to run at Langley. Their exact words were "If we have events over there, it'll be the end of ODR's autocross program".  Whatever. We held events under NASA Mid Atlantic sanctioning there and had 75-90 cars at each event. AND, we gave driver anywhere from 10-15 runs per event. ODR at Pungo gives you 4.

Personally, I think Pungo would be a lot more fun doing a short course. Something like the 25-30 second range. And give more runs. That way, there's more pressure not to screw up. Think of it as a sprint. One pylon penalty isn't horrible on a 50-60 second course, but on a 25 second course it would be. Either way, autocrossing is fun as hell.
