Dangit! I copied the first link they posted on FaceBook. He corrected it in a later post. Sorry , my mistake.

I think we should do everything we can to help them out. I honestly don't really think they ever had any real guidance or structure up there. Not that we have the market cornered on that end, but we have a good core group.

Hey HR folks -

Thanks for the support 038!  AprilWhine (Sherry) and Jim would be proud 002.  The RCM name is going to have to change as there is 'bad mojo' associated with it.......so let's just call it something else.

Actually, we had (somewhat) of a real structure including officers, set of bylaws worked through a lawyer, regular events for a while, and a web forum just like you guys have now.  One of our members just down the street from me (Seth Schmidt) led many 'spirited' shall we say drives and was involved with some folks from DCMM in forming a national MINI club (that never materialized).  I was an RCM officer for a while.

It's a long story...........the short version is that between many folks selling their MINIs (including officers) and moving on, some disagreements between club members, very little support from Crown MINI at the time we formed the club, and not really a huge customer base here in Richmond, things just didn't work out for us.  But we DID manage to have some fun and put together a few good drives and other events such as Cooper Vineyards that I have personally been involved with since the beginning (Jacque and her crew are GREAT!).

However, much of that has changed now as Crown MINI/MINIUSA is 'settled' in the marketplace, they truly are/want to be involved now, and there are more cars than ever in the area.  The enthusiasm is on the rise and we hope to start something new soon!

Two quick notes ..

Please cross post to THMMC forum any events etc. that this new club promotes as some of us from just south of y'all will surely haunt you .. oh, I mean show up. Just ask the kiddos from this HR MINI .. Cars & Coffee, Pungo Strawberry Festival, and especially the Fall Colours Run .. give us a good excuse, and it's justa 'nuther drive to get to the good stuff .. :-)

Lastly, some of us DON'T have Facebook, so please don't use that exclusively; cross post elsewhere so we non-social network type don't get left out ..

Thanks, sounds like you've got the foundation for a great club, looking forward to joining up with you!

I'm not on Facebook either, but we do have a NAM forum.  Once upon a time we had an RCM forum, but it is no longer up.

One of the biggest draw backs I see is the "official" club thingy. Officers, by laws and the like might work well, but it can take a LOT of the fun out of a group. DC Metro does the "official" thing pretty well. Others, like us and Tar Heel, are a loosely aligned group of people with similar interests. I think possibly most MINI clubs are that way. When you have to worry about running a club, you forget how to have fun. I was an SCCA autocross chairman for 15+ years, so I know the regimentation of a club. Granted, a local MINI club would likely never get to that point of involvement.

I agree with a name change for y'all. Much like HR MINI, outside of this area, no one has a clue as to where we're from. There are several areas that could be considered "River City". Maybe something like Central Virginia MINI's would work better. I do think a new name would help with a fresh start.

We've also had several members referred to us from the folks at Crown. I'm sure they'll be just as eager to help the new group when they get up and running. Plan a quick event sometime soon and We'll get a group from Hampton Roads up your way.

Like Dale said Crown is eager to help a local MINI Club/Group. And a few of us here at HR have bought our MINI's from Crown too.
