Hey Gang, I got an email tonight from Jacque at our favorite winery, Cooper Vineyard. This is one of their bigger events each year and this is the 8th annual MINI Rally. Last year we had well over 100 MINI's and Crown MINI co sponsored the event.

For those that don't know, Cooper Vineyard in located just west of Richmond in Louisa, Virginia. They do a MINI Rally with a wine tasting and commemorative glass for 20 bucks (I think). They also have several other wineries doing tastings included in the price. Other attractions are vendors doing jewelry, collectibles and the like. There are also food vendors on hand to feed us for a reasonable price. I really miss those crab cakes from two years ago, though last years BBQ was pretty darn good. There's also a darn good jazz band that seems to play non stop. They female vocalist is awesome too.

The part I like is our "scenic/spirited" drive from Richmond over to the Winery. 44 miles and an hour and a half of sheer fun. Nothing too fast (remember them speed limits) and nothing too scary, though some of those twisties are challenging. The only real draw back is it's usually hotter than the water in the boiler in the basement of Hell.

SO....Jacque, the owner of Cooper Vineyard (and one great gal, too!) proposed to us last year that we move the date. Here's a list of dates she offered. Not too sure if there's anything else open, but here's what she has:

last 3 weekends of August - still HOT
Sunday of Labor Day
Sunday Oct 23
Sat Oct 29
Sun Oct 30
Sat Nov 12
Sun Nov 13
Sat Dec 10
Sun Dec 11

Are we opposed to moving it to a Sunday? Doesn't really matter to me. Especially, since wer're outta there by 4PM any way. Y'all give me an idea of what you think will work and I'll get back with Jacque.

Weren't we going in July the last couple of years?  The heat doesn't really bother me much but the cold certainly isn't my favorite time of year!   I understand how heat bothers others, too.  I think that towards the end of August would be better. It's still kind of hot but *should* be starting to cool off a little bit.

Yea, I'm thinking October might not work. MSSD and our Fall Colors Run are in Oct. I'll see what September looks like. I'm thinking July is too hot as is August a lot of the time.

My vote would be for the Sunday of Labor Day weekend since it's truly the "cusp" of the dog days of August and the crisp coolness of September.

Plus, it's a THREE DAY WEEKEND!   038

It's a bummer there are no June dates.  If memory serves, that was the time frame we were going to shoot for when we talked about it after last year's trip there.

Cold isn't an option in my book. Don't too much like the heat we've had the last 3 years or so either. I'd really like to find a happy medium. October might be decent, but the weather can be a little iffy at times. I'm just thinking July is too hot and we might have lost a few attendees because it was so hot. I kind alike Erika's idea for Labor Day Sunday, but a lot of people have weekend long family vacations then and I'm sure we'd lose some to that. I'll ask about sometime in September or earlier in October, but I have a feeling they weren't put out there due to other conflicting events. Remember Jacque and staff do have events away from the vineyard, so they don't have people there every weekend. And, they do still have a winery to run.

At this point I'm thinking maybe Sunday October 30 and have a Halloween theme or possibly an August weekend, maybe a little cooler than July. Y'allgive me some more input before I get back with Jacque.

Either way, we'll still have a great drive over to the Vineyard.

What about Sunday, Oct 30th. ??  I prefer hot weather over cold, and the end of October is really asking for trouble, but it would be a ton of fun to combine the Cooper Vineyards run and some sort of Halloween event at the same time.
Just saying......

It's hard to pick a date where everyone can make it. Where Sunday Oct 30th may be fun I think it may conflict with Halloween plans whether it be family or party plans. Plus October already has 2 events. Where we would all like to make every event some are forced to chose one or the other when there is more than one in a month.

Why are they charging $10.00 for the DD? Is it for a shirt? If you want to go and don't drink do you still have to pay $10?

I would suggest August or October 29/30 as this would be close to peak foliage but might be a bit on the chilly side.  I know in the past we've done late spring at CV, so maybe Jacque has one day available then?

Labor Day is pre-back-to-school family vacations, the Baltimore Grand Prix, and other stuff, probably not a good date.
