My wife's car has about 3800 miles on it, and with the extended oil change interval, I'm trying to be real good about checking the oil level each time I gas up the car.

The problem is, I find the textured knobby dipstick hard to read.  I *think* the oil level has dropped to the bottom third of the textured portion, but I'm not certain enough of the reading to actually add any more oil yet.

How much oil do you find yourself adding in-between oil changes, especially on a new car prior to the first oil change?

Thanks,
Scott

The oil level will be easier to see as it gets dirtier. If you wipe the dipstick really well and look at it in the right light, at the right angle, you'll be able to see it. I used around a half a quart the first 3500 miles and none since.

Thanks - Riqui's car is probably only down about half a quart as well, since I've been checking the oil right after shutting the engine off, leaving some in the heads and oil passages.

I'll check it again very carefully after it's been sitting a while and all the oil's in the sump, then adjust as necessary.

After checking out the threads on the NAM board, I find that I'm not the only one flummoxed by the dipstick on the 'S' model, so I feel a little better.
