Been thinking a lot about clutch life lately for various reasons, and thought it would be informative to poll our members. Please post year of build, model, current mileage, and if you have "HAD" to replace your clutch, or had clutch problems, the mileage when this occurred. Also please add any additional info that relates to this subject.
I'll start this off. '03 MCS. 75K miles. Original clutch. No problems.

I was on the verge of replacing the clutch in my old '02 MCS right before at 115K miles. I'm up to 65K miles on my '06 MCS, and it still feels fairly stiff.

Thanks Adam. This is exactly the kind of response that I was hoping for. Nothing sinister about this poll people. I'm just curious, and thought this would be a good place to get get some feedback from Mini owners that I know, and can trust the responses to be honest and accurate.

Alot of this is going to depend on how you drive and the type of driving you do. Along with what mods u may have. The older models like the 03 had a real tall first gear. Due to engine mods and such i changed my clutch at the 10,000 mark to a Spec stage 3 clutch. For autox i had a tendency to let it slip alot on take offs to keep it in a good power range. Did this for another 60,000 miles. until i heard it start slipping on its own after fully releasing the clutch. after that i let it lock up right of the bat for the next 15,000 miles and had no problems with slippage. Then at around 85,000 the engine blew and its been sitting ever since.
with the mods i had the power to the wheels on its highest dyno run was 233 whp, but put back down to 192 at 71,000 (replaced supercharger with a new one). went from a 19% pulley to stock JCW pulley.

'06 MCS with 65k and original clutch. Only problem I've ever sensed is an occassional noise upon disengagement/launch when the car is cold. Hardly ever happens but when it does it's noticable.

06 MCS with 105K and original clutch. Commute between VB and Hampton every day and autocrosses all summer. Starting around 85k I've noticed it's a little crunchy feeling when I press in the clutch pedal. I think that's the throw out bearing. It also engages a little higher than it used too. I also sometimes get some noise engaging 1st when it is cold. It doesn't slip though; yet. I'll replace it when it does. I wonder if I've got another 5K or another 30K? Only time will tell...

For those of you who get the noise when the clutch is cold... that's the throwout bearing showing wear. But you can get away with that for quite awhile. The one in my old '02 MCS started making the noise sometime after 60K miles, and I went another 55K without changing it.

40k and mine is starting to slip. Im heavy on it tho. Lot of down shifting and the such. But I just drove to FLA and back on it and with the car slam full of ppl and stuff only noticed it on occasion while accelerating around ppl. Gonna try to get to summer on it tho. Got the flywhell rattle and had the throw out bearing noise once or twice. No big problems tho. Still good engagement .

Interesting. Doesn't seem to be any real pattern here aside from throw out bearing rattle. I have it too.
