This is a great time! For the new members that have joined this year (and there are a LOT of you) this is a great run. l had a great time and ate too much. That part seems to be a theme with me.
Make plans for this run, it's a blast!
Didn't we do this on a Saturday last year?

Wonderful fun drive and eating! This is an annual tradition with HRMINI. It is only a one day thing and you get home in plenty of time for a good night's rest for the next day's work. Mark it on your calender apps right now!

FYI. For those that might be undecided about going all the way to Kitty Hawk for some seafood..... I am allergic to shellfish myself, and seafood places usually scare the hell out of me. I have attended this HRMINI run to Jimmy's for the past two years and have really enjoyed the drive and the meal at Jimmy's. They have a lot of seafood on the buffet to be sure, but also have plenty of eats for us land lovers as well ! It's a fun event and I encourage everyone that might be undecided to come along !

Recommend taking last exit before toll. it goes east of the express way past the Home depot. Turn right on Battlefield Blvd there. It comes back to the expressway at the light just past the toll booth. Save the $6.00 each way!!!

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll look into routing around those tolls.

Next month's HRMINI dinner is already set for our annual run to Jimmy's Buffet in Kitty Hawk, NC. on June 26th. It has always been a fun drive, group meal, and get together. Hope we have our usual large group that has always attended this event !!! After filling our bellies at Jimmy's, people usually tend to go off on their own way, either to the very close outlet mall for some shopping, or head for home. Maybe this year we can all agree to do something together, instead of all going in separate directions..... I'll suggest now that we all meet up after our meal at the outlet mall and do some shopping, and then all meet up at Kitty Hawk Kites. There are some fun shops there ! Opinions ????

Anyone that is planning to attend this event and may be considering staying on the OBX that night.... The place that we usually stay at has changed it's name. (see the first post). We stayed there over the Memorial Day weekend. The new name is the Roadway Inn and Suites, Nags Head. Address is 7218 S. Va. Dare Trail. Nags Head, NC. 27959. Ph. # 252-441-5242.
This place is right at Whale Bone Junction on the beach road. Right across the street from the NEW Jennette's Fishing Pier. The old pier was destroyed by Isibelle. ( sp?)" The "new" pier just opened a few weeks ago, and it it the nicest pier I have ever seen ! They have a small pool at the hotel, are pet friendly, $10.00 per night pet fee, and the place has been completely renovated. Beach access is right across the street at the pier and good food is available with a short walk. Sam & Omies is next door as is Fat Boys. Kathy says the crab cakes at Fat Boys are WONDERFUL !!! We are planning to stay the night again this year and enjoy the beach on Sunday before coming home. There is a new and very clean bath house /restroom building at the pier with outdoor fresh water showers, so washing off the salt and sand before a drive home is no problem. Also there is plenty of shade under the new pier for people that have pets that can't handle the hot sun all day, or the humans that don't want to risk getting a bad sunburn. Place is 5 min. to the outlet mall, and about 10 min. to either the Oregon Inlet fishing Center to the South, or The Kitty Hawk Kites shopping center to the North.

As of right now, I'm planning on spending the whole day down there and head back to HR around 8-9PM or so. Just driving down, eating and driving back takes some of the fun outta the run!

Wow ! Just noticed that this years run is on a Sunday ! May just go down early on Sat. and spend the day enjoying the beach, and then meet up with the group at Jimmy's on Sunday and head home with the group later. I have booked a room for Sat. just in case we decide to do this. Have until the 23rd. to cancel if we decide to only make a one day trip out of it. We'll see. I also have a Work Party day scheduled at my hunt club for that Sat. So I may have to do that and then just do the run down and back on the Sunday.
Dale, Have you ever stopped off on the way down at the Morris Farm Market ? The place with all of the old farm tractors along the side of the road ?? I HIGHLY recommend a stop there ! The Cotton Gin is a cool stop off point as well, but Morris's Market is really neat as well.

Just bumping this to the top since this is Sunday afternoon. Last minute items: Start time is 1pm. Come up to an hour early to chat and kick tires. In the event you are running a little late, call me 757-812-5566. We will try real hard not to leave without you. There will be a drivers talk sharing some expectations and rules of the road. This gives all drivers the same information whether experienced at this or not. If you have travel radios bring them. If you have extras share them. If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about see this site for what to shop for. http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-TalkAbout-MJ270R-27-Mile-22-Channel/dp/B001UE6MIY/ref=sr_1_14?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1307841961&sr=1-14 DO NOT allow lack of a radio to stop you from coming on this trip. Many are shared. You simply follow the car ahead of you. Bring $3.00 for the toll and $3.00 for toll coming home. Fast Pass does work at this toll booth. Jimmy's takes credit cards of all types. We will be home early enough to get sleep for the Monday work day wake-up call. Wear comfy walking shoes for shopping and expanding waistline clothing for comfort! I don't want to be seeing any of those unbuttoned jeans
