Just to let you know... I diagnosed Chris' (1badbelt's) MINI today using the OBD-II adapter and software on my laptop. Easy as pie. Once I looked up the code returned, we figured out the source of the problem right away.

P1497... "Unmetered air leak." Chris had loosened the top cover of the valve cover, and there was a small oil leak near plug #4 indicating a bad seal. He said he would RTV it when he got home.

Actually, it was just the engine light. No symptoms occurred that Chris is aware of. Light kept coming and going; it never stayed on steady.
