I was watching ABC's Extreme Home Makeover this evening and literally yelled "HOWIE!!!" when you came on!
You & your architectural design team did an awesomely FANTASTIC job with the Hill-Burdette house!
Congrats!

Thanks so much, Erika. It was an extremely rewarding and fullfilling project to be associated with. A once in a lifetime, actually. That family is truly deserving, and the entire Hampton Roads commumity came out in full force to help pull it off, for which we can all be very proud.

I do have a question about the dance/music room that had 6000watts of power...
Do you know what kind of soundproofing materials were used? I'm guessing it would have to be some heavy-duty industrial type materials for all four walls, floor & ceiling.

I'm not sure whether or not the contractor beefed up the insulation in the muisc room itself, but with the house being located in one of the highest noise zones around NAS Oceana, the City's sound attenuation requirements were extremely high. For that reason, we were required to use highly insulated windows and closed cell spray insulation within the exterior envelope. Hopefully the volume being generated by 6,000 watts of power will not be any more than the sound generated by the F18a's circling overhead during touch and go's.

I was involved with doing a few voiceovers when I was younger. This guy had a killer setup at a condo right next to I-64. He had lined a closet with that soundproofing foam. I can tell you, once the door was almost closed (small crack for light, no bulb in there), You could hear nothing but yourself.

Congrats to Howard. That was a good thing. Shawn Balluzzo did a lot of work on the house too. He's an old friend of mine. As for being full of it, most people know I am pretty much every day

...."Shawn Balluzzo did a lot of work on the house too"....
is an understatement if I ever heard one. Shawn was magnificent and truly worked his a$$ off on this project. I saw him at the site everyday, and I have no idea what it was (besides adrenalyn) that was keeping him going. He's was totally wiped by the end of it all. We had a few impromtu conversations about racing during the process.

Well, I'm glad to hear you had a good time. Will have to make an effort to catch the episode in a rerun.
