I just picked up my 2011 MCS on Tuesday night. Today the engine light came on (amber). I didn't notice any strange noises or any changes in performance.

I called CF and the service manager said that I could continue to drive her (has a gender but not a name yet) as long as the light wasn't red or flashing. Because of travel plans and the availability of a loaner, I won't be able to drop it off until July 18th.

So....my question: I'd like to go on the OBX rally on Sunday, but of course am concerned because of that annoying light. What the thoughts of those in the know?

Thanks in advance

It could be something simple like a loose gas cap. Drive it around for a while today and see if it goes out. Mine came on shortly after I bought it but went out after a few miles and has not returned

If you can get by an Advance Auto or Autozone or similar, they will read the code for you.  Then you can research it or post it here for more help.

I too, think you'd be fine. Besides, Frank told ya to drive it, so shouldn't be a problem in my opinion.

Besides, Seafood in the Outer Banks might just fix the light. Even if it doesn't, ya still get to eat some great food and hang out with a bunch of other MINI owners!

(oaky, it probably won't make the light go out, but it's worth a try!)

Thanks for feedback. I called Brian Fellini (a plug for Brian) this morning and he contacted Frank. I got in this afternoon and they found that the tank vent valve needs to be replaced. Frank said no problem in driving, and after a wash and vacuum, I got it back with the engine light now off. So they did something to eliminate the vacuum leak. I have a date in July scheduled for a loaner when the vent valve is replaced and to touch up a tiny scratch on the fender.

Happy camper  026 and I should be able to make it for the excursion on Sunday, when I hope to meet and greet.
