Just as an FYI .. the calendar on the forum regarding this event needs some help .. It has the wrong dates. There is no link / hyperlink to this thread that has all of the details .. And I'm not exactly sure why the "title" on it is FCR VIII? I know I missed # 1, but I thought this was the 3rd? Looking forward to it .. and Pony Express to Chincoteague the month before .. PS My bet says Celia will definitely have a decorated MINI!

The reason for the FCR VIII is that this is the eighth year of the Fall colors run. It is the third year we have based it out of the Inn in Monterey. Previously it was a slightly different format, but still a two day run in the fall. In 2006, most met in Waynesboro on a friday night, then drove up the skyway Saturday and over to Luray Caverns. Then some spent the night near Luray. We actually drove home that night. Then over the years, it stayed a similar format with different hotels for night one and two in different areas of the mountains. I think it was even suggested to look into the Greenbrier in WV once. In 2009, the idea of the same hotel both friday and saturday night came together and it worked like a dream. Each year since the drives have been different but we use the same central hotel location. Like anything it has grown up over the years and is coming into its own these last few years! Hope to make it this year. As usual, by the time I know if I can make it, I'll be stayin in the Montvalle. LOL. Spend all the time at the Inn anyway.

Glad I checked the site! I'm in!! Reservations made! Can't wait! Pl advise on radios! Glad ya made it! Don't worry, I wouldn't have let ya miss it! Radios, yes! FRS radios channel 7 sub channel 21 Though there was some talk of changing that, as that's the same channel they use for communication at the Dragon. But for our events, it's fine.

Hey Gang, I have a quick question for ya concerning the FCR Saturday run. How long is too long for a run?
Here's the deal, Saturday's run is about 180 miles. Travel time is 4 - 4.5 hours. Add in lunch and a few interesting stops, I'm thinking we'll be out for 7 - 8 hours. That has us leaving no later than 9 AM and return around 4 or 5 PM. Granted we're there to motor, but what is too long? I can kill off a few stops, but I hate to do that, because there is some neat stuff to see and do. Things like the mountain side photo op, Seneca Rocks and a few others.
Give me an idea. Is that too long for a run?

Personally, I have no problem with an all day run as long as there are plenty of stops to get out and stretch As far as people that don't what to be gone all day, is there a spot on the run for an easy bailout run back to the Inn?

There is Brian, From lunch, they can make a U turn and head back to the Inn. Mid way from there they can take another route that'll take them back to the Inn about an hour or so faster than the whole run. But then they'll miss one of the best parts of the run!

Well, your intrepid FCR planner put 726 miles on the Clubbie today. Left HR MINI land at 6AM, was up in Harrisonburg at 10AM and found some really neat stuff along the route. Went to Seneca Rocks north to Cabins, WV, down Smoke Hole Road (you just wait for this one!) back down to Monterey. Then headed south to Covington and on to Paint Bank, VA. I think this years FCR will have the best route with SEVERAL real neat photo op stops along the way. If you've seen the rock wall-side of Rte 250 pics, you ain't seen nothing yet! OH, did I mention a covered bridge? Alas, we can't drive it, but it's a neat stop. Wait till you see Paint Bank, Super cool little town, just gotta figure out parking for lunch, but we'll work on that! Got home about 9PM. Long day for the old guy. But plans are shaping up nicely!
