Okay HR MINI gang, I've got some concerns about having and corresponding on two different fronts. We have people here on HR MINI that don't do facebook. And I've seen names on the facebook page that aren't on this site. I like the fact that we can get the word out about events on facebook. I also like the fact that we attract more people to the club using our facebook page. However, I think main conversations should be kept over here on HRMINI.com. I don't want to see people miss an event or a dinner because they don't do facebook or miss it here.

Things get posted there and not here. Case in point, the Knuckleheads car show. I'm fairly confident some of our members didn't see that and would like to have known about it.

Let me know if I'm missing something. Is there a need for two different sites? Someone convince me I'm looking at this wrong.

You would have to find a way, at a minimum, to get the calendar events linked between our forum and Facebook.  A quick search only yields information on linking Facebook to Google Calendar.  The best advice I can give is to put up a permanent notice in each location that encourages members to check out the other.

I realize that I am just a lurker on HR Mini and Facebook for that matter. So my opinion does not count. I do agree that we should have one place for our event calendar. It is a dilemma though on which to use. Facebook has its place as a conversation board. HR MINI is a great place to see events and RSVP.  Not being an avid Facebook user, I do miss out. Steve is my event coordinator  038 so I do get to make most events. I think he looks to HR MINI first for events.

Here are some thoughts ....

Other car clubs know about HRMINI's website. We would not want to lose access to those clubs. We have a strong MINI community though it spans several states and many clubs.

Facebook is one place where people share thoughts on their personal lives, political opinions, etc.

Dale and Cathy are site moderators. Having two different sites to post information has to be time consuming, and most likely frustrating.

What would the effect be on the club if information -  was posted only to one site?

Would we lose potential MINI family members?

Maybe we could put out a real survey for responses.

Sometimes Facebook contains TMI (Too much information) Just my humble opinion, and one glass of wine!

Sadly this is a problem faced by a lot of groups.  I belong to a Board Games group and we seem to be experiencing a lot of the same.  Some folks use the website, some use FB, some use both...

Best recommendation I can make is to keep the calendar updated on the website.  Make the website the "go back to" place for more info on events that do get posted to FB.   Encourage the forum use.  FB is good for posting events and getting folks to RSVP (giving good head counts) but in the end try to express (and get those most vocal members) to "push" the website first.

Elaine, your opinion most certainly counts.

Here's the main issue. Not picking on Brian in any way. Just using him as an example. HE posted on FB about the MINI coupe unveiling next Tuesday. Nothing has been posted on HRMINI about it. I'm sure there are members that'll miss out if it's not on the website. If someone makes a post about an event of any sort, it needs to be carried over onto the website, and I'll add it to the calendar. And from a totally selfish side, I don't have time to scour two site to keep the different events updated. Between Pub nights on the Peninsula, Pub nights on the south side, car shows, ice cream runs, etc, tracking things down on two sites is a daunting task. If the FB page has a particularly busy day, something could get buried quickly.

I'm guessing the FB page has been up and running since before my time.  It has only really picked up activities and such over the last year.

Nice things about Facebook are that it is a social network allowing friends of friends to share and see events.  It also communicates well with all the smart-phones and iPads out there.  The RSVP system is wonderful for event planners who need a count.

HRMini.com has a great easy to read calendar, but it can only be updated by one person.  So that one person either has to keep a good eye on all the individually planned events or be notified when to put something on the calendar.  Sometimes the calendar is not linked to the information needed either.  I have seen items mentioned by members, but overlooked by the board (mind me, I'm not pointing fingers since I am one of those trying to keep it up.)

So do we need a few more administrators for HRMINI and or Facebook?  Can those additonal adminitrators have the power to post to both groups.  I know sometimes too many cooks can spoil the stew, however, too few may be a problem as well.          Thoughts?

Too few is definitely a problem. As is too many. Updating the calendar is slow sometimes, and often times I'll slip up adding events from FaceBook. A quick message on HRMINI usually gets it added quickly. There is an issue with linking a thread to the calendar. Only part of it comes through as a link, requiring a cut and paste. I'll get Jim to look at that.

Anyone that wants to help out on HR MINI send me a PM and give me an idea of what you wanna help with. I'm pretty busy at work and I've had several other big irons in the fire, part of which included some up coming runs and some other MINI related items.

Look for more MINI Runs in the upcoming months and more MINI opportunities!

As I was reading all the posts, I had an idea. Since we are worried about "too many cooks" I will volunteer to make note of events and such from the fb page, then look on this site to see if it is there, if not I can notify Dale or Kathy. Others can do this too since I'm not on fb quite all the time. If several of us are watching for these events, maybe nothing will get passed over.
