Okay gang, get this! I'm looking through Blue Ridge Magazine and I see an ad for Morgantown, WV convention & Visitors bureau and it's showing a motorcycle and talking about their twisty roads. BTW, this seems to be a trend to chamber of commerce types if they have rods with even a few twists (ala, the Dragon, Back of the Dragon, etc...). So I request some info and tell them a little about what we do when we have our runs. Well, I get a personal email back from Benjamin Huffman, Conference Sales Manage for the Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau. He proceeds to tell me about the Biker rally they just had with 75,000 bikers! Check out www.wvmountainfest.com how about headliners, Montgomery Gentry with Ted Nugent and Grand Funk Railroad!? Seems they can really handle a crowd pretty well out there.

He says he'd LOVE to help us set up a MINI Rally in Morgantown! Okay, ya got my attention! Granted, HR MINI land is a FAR cry from Morgantown, WV, but I personally know there are some really great roads up there! (Regina's family if from Bruceton Mills, just east of Morgantown) It would take several long commutes out there to set everything up, but we can do a lot through email. I'm all for this. If anyone would like to help with some logistics please let me know.

Also, There are several other good size groups within a couple hundred miles of Morgantown, Carlisle MINIs and PITT Stop MINI's. I'm seeing a good size event in the making. AND---there's a winery nearby!!!

Are you thinking of a long weekend? I have no real concept of WV, how far out would that be for us DC folks?

Yep, loooong weekend.

Google Maps says it's 209 miles from DC to Morgantown, so that's pretty manageable. Once I get the info from Ben I'll do some planning. It's a great area and hey, 75,000 bikers can't be wrong.

Just don't ask Steve what he thinks of Harley riders on the twisties!

I'll help with this. I've taken a few trips out to West Virginia and went out there to drive some of the roads before the Fall colors run. The roads are in better shape than ours and have a lot less traffic on them. I work with several folks from that area that may be able to give us some leads.

Many people make fun of WV, but it has alot to offer with its roads, mountains and other scenery.  Whenever I travel north to Wisconsin, I prefer the I-64/US35 route that goes through VA/WV/OH as opposed to the I70/76 route that goes through VA/PA/OH.

WV indeed does have some great roads and like Don said, they are usually on a LOT better shape than VA's!

My son and daughter-in-law are in Morgentown going to school at WVaU -- and will be there till next May.  For us the drive is 7 hrs.  We go up 95 to 17 to 66 to 81 to 70 to 68 -- good roads the whole way, and no tolls!  Let me know what you have in mind and when -- if it works with "before they leave the area" and my husbands active duty schedule, we're in! (two MINIs - BRG clubman with Welch Dragon on roof, and red cooper with flag of duke of Berwick on roof).
