I'm sorry to say, I'm not the least bit shocked. That kind of work is extremely labor intensive and as we all know most of repair costs are labor hours.

To conclude the saga... Atlantic Autowerks checked my carbon buildup, and said it's nowhere near enough to have caused any problems whatsoever.... so they kept my car for a week, cleared out all the codes and lights, then proceeded to drive it all over the place... stop and go.. highway... low speed... high speed.... and couldn't get the bunny to recreate the problem... so they still believe, after all that, that it is the high pressure fuel injector pump thingamajig, and that eventually it will go again, and probably go for good... then, if i still have the car, i can take it to a dealership and get her fixed on their dime. so, in the meantime, the bunny is back on the road, and every time i get behind her wheel i say a little prayer that today won't be that day

That's good to hear.  Wouldn't hurt to run an STP fuel injector cleaner bottle through the system every 3,000 miles or so.   icon_cool

I would suggest Lucas "Deep Clean" every third or fourth tank before I'd suggest STP.  I put the Lucas stuff in my van and the performance improved in just a few miles, no kidding!
