I've hit (or I hit) a roadblock on my coilover installation. I think the answer is pretty simple, but I would like to have some of your advice. I'm pretty new to the car scene and unfamiliar with all this german engineering. This summer I was right about to take the top mounts off my coilovers when I turned the page in my manual and it says I need a(n)(expensive) BMW special tool. So, they have been sitting in my garage along with my control arms reminding me of the rewards of reading ahead. Other forums have suggested manufacturing your own special tool or using an impact wrench to bypass the $100. I don't know if I'm that ambitious to generate a makeshift socket, and I'm a little bit leery on just torquing it to death with the air gun. I'm also finding problems finding the BMW special tool or justifying the price.

Any advice would be appreciated...

Thanks,
Josh

If I remember correctly, I used a spark plug socket (one with the hex nut built into the bottom). I turned it with a wrench. I slipped the allen wrench through the socket square drive hole into the end of the strut shaft end and held it in place.

Thanks I'm going to look into that. Hopefully, I can get it to work and get to snowplow mode for the winter icon_cool
