After 3 long days at Atlantics I finally got Susie back.
Susie went in because I broke down After hours of frustration with the belt tensioner during the installation of a 15%, that I thought would be simple.
During her stay " Steve and bob " seemed most courteous, keeping me sorta updated, only to notify me of things needing to be replaced. The motor mounts needed to be replaced and belt tensioner assembly.

I was told it would be done in a days work. (towed there Saturday) Ofcourse they were closed. So Monday they called and said they had gotten the parts in that needed to be replaced and asked of it was okay to replace so I agreeded.

Me being carless was relying a ride down there(vb)  from hampton, so getting a lift relied on a descriptive time for friends.

I didn't receive a call and I decided tO call at 4pm and got a " car won't be done today " but will be done tmwr(Tuesday) In like an aggravated voice, wasn't sure if it was becaus I had called around lunch time? Seeing if it were ready who knows.

Next day, called same time after leaving class. They said they'll keep me updated. So they close at 5 and with traffic and from being on hpt I had to leave around 330. Just to beat traffic in order to get there in te
Before they closed. Called around 315. Same guy( mike ) seemed once again aggravated with the same excuse with an added weve been slammed making me feel as if my car was not important enough.

Well got a call at 930 this morning from steve and was excited to hear the car was ready to be picked up but needed a new cv axle boot, they said it was cheaper to replace the whole unit and was 350 for the part and 300 for the labor. I called around and got auch cheaper quote. Declined the option and went and picked the car up fearing for them to keep my car for more than a week and not get it back until next Monday

So my question is

Belt tension
Right side motor mounts
And labor
For 850, with hrmini discount

Was that a fair number or was i butchered ??

I believe they did a good job.

I'm not a picky person, but when I've been told it should be done in 1 day and not hear back of course I'm going to call about my baby.

Let me know what y'all think. Thanks

Knowing Terry and Bob at Atlantic, I'd think you would be treated well. They've done work on both of my MINI's. Both of the items you mentioned are known issues with R53's. Likewise, tensioner issues also crop up on R56's.

I do have to give 'em a smack on the forehead for the lack of communication though. That's usually not like them.

Tensioners aren't as much of a pain on the first gen cars as they are on my second gens. I think that sounds like a decent price.

While I know you were hard set on a one day turn-around, in this day and age, it's hard to expect that if you are getting more than just an oil change or other minor work.  The belt tensioner required some time on the lift.  If it's similiar to changing the pulley itself, this means all of the engine mounts would need to be loosened so the engine itself could be lifted up to get access to the tensioner.

Atlantic Autowerks is a custom shop, which to me means work is a little slower, but with more TLC into getting the job done right.  A day's work can also mean a day's time in shop hours, not a normal 24-hour day.  I would say $850 is a good price considering all parts and labor.  As for the axle boot, yes, it's better to buy the whole axle assembly than repair parts of it.  The CV joints in my old '02 MCS wore out, and I replaced both axles at 105K miles.  Depending on your mileage, it might be better just to do that than do a band-aid repair and just replace the axle boot.
