In case anyone has been living under a rock this last week or so:

BMW is recalling pretty much every turbo charged mini made before Jan 2011.

http://www.motoringfile.com/2012/01/15/mini-usa-announces-water-pump-recall-affecting-79000/#more-22223

Needless to say the Ill-tempered clown(s) at Checkered Flag are clueless - wait for your official MINI letters to arrive in Feb. Park outdoors until then, kiss your resale value goodbye.

Nope, you're off the hook.

Some still catch on fire, but it's a different kinda fire. Bad still, but different!

I wouldn't worry. Hell, mine's recalled, but I'm not a scared!  074

Supercharged MINI's are not included in this recall. True.....

However, I recently learned that if your Cooper "S" is over 50k in mileage, keep a steady eye on your oil level. Top off if needed, and of course, change that stuff frequently.

Failure to do so, As the Supercharger starts to consume oil, can also result in costly repairs with some serious downtime too. I find myself dropping in a quart of high mileage full sythetic about 2500 into most oil change intervals. I also make it a point to not exceed 5k between changes.

I just had the recall done on my JCW along with other stuff between Thurs and Fri.  They replaced the auxiliary water pump and hose clamp then added some fresh coolant.  My SA said it was a 45 min job roughly.

A week or two ago the dealer (MINI of Richmond) told me to wait until I got the letter and they received more information.  However, when I brought the car in the other day to get the windshield replaced my SA said it wasn't as big of a deal as they first thought and they had the parts in stock so they went ahead and did it.

No letter required for me.  Have not received one yet.

UPDATE:

Have heard that checkered flag are now able to schedule water pump recall appts.
I'm going to wait until they've done a few and have the process down.

I'm foreseeing this issue kind-of overloading the dealerships.  Keep in mind you can go to any location that has a MINI-certified technician on hand.  This includes Autohaus, and probably Atlantic Autowerks, depending on which side of the water you live on.

Got mine today as well for both my Clubbie and Tyler's MCS. Probably gonna do the timing chain tensioner and replacement at the same time. Gizmo has been a bit noisy in the mornings. Tyler will have to get his done at MINI of Orlando.
