Me and my whiffed are relocating to the tide water area,we are looking for any kind of avise anyone may have to offer? Mostly we re looking a houses and town houses that are under 150,000. So we would appreciate any info on neighborhoods to stay away from that there might be bad crime in etc.

Realtors we talk to all say they are not allowed to say if the nieghborhood is actually the hood..

My wife's family is from the eastern shore in Salisbury MD and We are trying to move in between my family from Roanoke VA and Salisbury and the tide water area seems to be the write place to grow some new roots..

So I'm asking how is the Hampton area,as I hadn't really thought of the area till just recently,my wife will be working in VA Beach and it looks like I'll be working in Chesapeake so if a commute from Hamton to Chesapeake sounds crazy also let me know?

We would apreciate all input good or bad and thank you

Giving up on Star city huh?

Hampton has some nice neighborhood and some 'hoods. Give me an idea of where you're looking and I'll check 'em out for ya. My shop is in Hampton and most of my guys live there.

One thing about the commute from Hampton to the Beach is the tunnel. It's SLOOOW in the mornings and SLOOOOWER in the evenings, and ever worse in the summer time. Having said that, don't let that totally turn ya off to Hampton. BUT (I almost forgot) I 64 from the tunnel eastward, is nothing but pot hole/bad rad patch highway. I HATE that stretch of highway!

For me personally, and this is just my opinion, I would NEVER want to commute through the Hampton Roads Bridge tunnel everyday to and from work. Especially going to VA Beach. Not only would you hit the huge traffic at the tunnel both ways, but you'd also hit the traffic at the 64/264 interchange which can also be a bear. But I always try to live close to my work so I never have to experience these problems, but I guess if I did it for years I would eventually get used to it, but blah I wouldn't want to voluntarily have to.

As for the price range, I haven't really looked at real estate around here, but I don't think you will have a lot of luck finding nice places in VA Beach/Chesapeake in that price range. Townhouses maybe, but single family homes, probably not. They will probably need some work or be in an awkward location. I can say too much because I bought my house 5 years ago when the market was decent and I was making less money, so I live in one of the somewhat "hood/ghetto" areas, but I like it because NO ONE bothers me. I could be out working on my car at 2 AM with an impact gun and no one cares or complains... but in a couple years when kids come along, I'll be relocating to a nicer area too :)

Norfolk would be a good choice for you and it would be centrally located to both of your job areas, but there isn't as many "nice" areas in Norfolk, there are a bunch, but not a lot. Ghent isn't a bad area either, but lots of newer construction so the prices are a little higher. I'm not sure if you have kids, but if you do or plan to, you may want to also look into the school districts and get a feel for which school you'd consider wanting them to attend and try to find a place in that area, if that is one of your concerns anyways.

Either way good luck, and you're making a smart choice. This is the longest timeframe I haved lived in one place since I left the USMC and I still enjoy being here!

Coolness and thank you guys! I Dale I like Roanoke for its historical and eclectic-ness,the mountains and twisties year round but the it seems like we got a bit to much of the fake people and terrible drivers in the area,my wife's Mazda 3 just got struck in the rear from yet another lady in a jeep tonight, last time it was a lady in an tiberon in my wife's versa, and before I got the mini I drove the three and a lady winged me with her chevey! Seriously the people just don't know how to drive here!

I'm not sure if there going to end up totaling the Mazda this time does anyone no if it's. Bad idea when trying to buy a house if a new car loan is a really bad idea? I've told that it is believed to be a really bad idea? And if so how long would we need to clear it so we could buy?

Back to the point yeah it looks like we are looking into town houses for sure,no kids but we are thinking about adopting and I don't know if we are going to be living in the place forever, but the resale value would be nice to have if we ever sell?

I've heard a lot of negative things about Norfolk, until recently a guy a our hotel on the beach told us about the light rail and Mac arther center and I had one other person say good things about Ghent too.

I live in the great bridge area of Chesapeake.  Some real nice neighborhoods around here that fit your price range.  Also depends on what part of Chesapeake you will be working in.  If you are in Western Branch, then you might consider out there or North Suffolk.
