Hey all, has anyone replaced a windshield lately?  Crown quoted me $950-1000 (non rain sensor) for a replacement with installation, while others on the NAM board are saying $250-350 for a decent one with prof installation.  Recommended shop in Richmond or HR?  I will drive a little ways if necessary!  Thanks in advance.

Being in the bodyshop business we deal with windshields all the time. I just put one in my 09 Clubbie last fall. Being a little funny, like all of us MINI owners, I wanted a MINI windshield. (though honestly, you wouldn't know the difference except for the logo in one corner)

I bought a windshield from Checkered Flag and had Safelite do the install. We use them for our work at the shop.

On a down note, the first windshield from MINI did have the the lower edge very unfinished. I sent it back and go t a replacement which was fine. So much for OEM quality. On another down note, the VIN sticker (yes STICKER!) came out with the windshield. So I simple cut it off with a razor blade and taped it over the access hole in the new windshield. Problem solved.

If you're looking at saving money, I'd suggest spending a few minutes on the phone and call EVERY glass company in the book. I've seen very little difference in workmanship and quality. Call each company and get their price. You may see a large difference in price. Just make sure you ask about leak warranty, most have a lifetime warranty.

I think I paid them $120 to install the windshield I bought.

Safelite is national and comes with a lifetime warranty.  You can't go wrong.  The in-person location is just off the I-64/Mercury exit next to West Marine.  They will even come out to you.   023

I have to agree with the Safelite recommendation. They will come to you and do a very nice job too. Some so called pro's have left leaks, small imperfections, and even cuts on the headliner from being in too much of a hurry. I don't know if OEM glass will stand up any better to chipping than the aftermarket glass, that might be something to consider. I do a lot of driving, and in less than a year, I could stand to replace my glass again.

Thanks for the responses everybody!  023  My windshield was replaced at the dealer on Thurs-Fri with OEM glass and my regular MINI techs for the $500 deductible (thru Erie Insurance).  At the same time, they did the recall, VA insp, oil change, bonnet scoop replacement (heat warped), and tire rotation.  They gave me a new Countryman S to drive in the meantime, which did not suck icon_lol.

023 on everything, including the Countryman not sucking! While it may not be my cup of tea, it's good to know MINI hit the mark.

Is that the "Diminishing Deductiable" I've been hearing about? Most Insurance Companies seem to get at least $50 to $100 from the owner.

With Nationwide, collision and comprehensive each have their own deductibles.  I have $100/collision and $0/comprehensive, and windshields fall under the latter.   icon_cool
