Problem: It seems that we always have many events going on. To be honest it does get confusing and if you?re not a person who checks the forums every day it's hard to keep up with things.
Solution: Make a Sticky and have one person moderate it. (Someone who is going to be in the area a lot and is committed to the job)
Have it list all events(including specific runs/meets, auto-X, driving schools, dyno day's ect) With dates, a link to the Thread and a Point of Contact.
That way someone can just go to the Events sticky and see what's going on, then if they are interested they can just click on the link to that particular thread.
I understand that some people like to get together at the last minute and this idea wouldn't work for that, but for planned events this would be nice.
Then after the Event is over it will be deleted from the sticky.
Thanks -- Johan

Thanks -- Johan Event racking and reminders is a function that the old Yahoo calander did reasonably well. Is it worth reviving that? Is it too cumbersome to use two tools....this is a question, not an opinion I still use Groups for other activities and sometimes the e-mail notifications are useful....in techie terms the system pushes information to me rather than my needing to pull it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have started editing event threads to add a date in the title. Makes it much easier to see at a glance what event is approaching.

I did some research today about adding a calendar to the forum. So keep watch, it's coming.

Actually, looking back at PMs, it was Trish who originally asked for a calendar, so her idea. 8)

I've made a sample Google calendar for the club. You can access it through your own Google Calendar, if you use Google Calendar. You can also access it through other calendar programs, like iCal on the Mac, and I'm pretty sure Outlook as well. Or, you can view it through any web browser by clicking here: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=vduatad7t60c1rtsi7mek1r1eo%40group.calendar.google.com Depending on your calendar program, you may need an XML or iCal address to subscribe to the calendar. Here's the XML address: http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/vduatad7t60c1rtsi7mek1r1eo@group.calendar.google.com/public/basicAnd the iCal address: http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/vduatad7t60c1rtsi7mek1r1eo@group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.icsIf we decide to use this calendar, I can write up directions to help people set it up with their own calendar program. I don't know if anyone has already volunteered to manage the calendar and add events, but I'd be willing to do it if needed. The calendar can have multiple author/editors, so we could easily choose several people to keep it updated. Scott

Thanks Scott, good work! We can try it for a while, and if it works I'll add a link to the calendar from the home page. 8)

I only put in a few events just as a proof-of-concept. If anyone has events that they would like added to the calendar, let me know, and I'll get it fleshed out.
Sherry - if you use Google, give me your Gmail address and I'll add you as an author/editor. Likewise, give me the Gmail addresses for anyone else that you want to have edit/creation rights and I'll add them as well.
Scott

Easy Scott, you could have figured it out. ;) Same username as here at gmail dotcom.
If anyone wants a Gmail invitation, just post to this thread, I'm sure between us we have enough invitations to pass around.

Okay Sherry, I added you as an editor/author, so I think you'll be able to make changes through Google Calendar. I've never actually tried the "multiple authors" thing, so let me know if you have any problems. Scott

Per Johan's suggestion, I've updated the Google Calendar so that when you click on an event, the description includes a link to the appropriate thread here on the board. Not all of the events have been updated yet, but if you want an example, go to the Google Calendar here: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=vduatad7t60c1rtsi7mek1r1eo%40group.calendar.google.comAnd click on the Dyno Day event on October 28th. The description should include a link to the HRMINI thread. Scott
