Well, my long-awaited, oft-delayed Mini finally arrived at Checkered Flag via truck today.  It won't be ready for me to pick up until Monday at the earliest, since they have to inspect it, install all the dealer options, and things like that, but I went down and took a few pictures:

That view will look different in a few days once it gets the carbon fiber mirror caps and scoop, and the chrome grille and driving lights.

Mine was one of the 2006 convertibles mistakenly given a 2007 VIN number.  That was the main reason for the month-long delay I've been waiting through.  When it went back to the factory, they replaced the VIN plate on the dash and all of the labels throughout the car, and re-flashed the computer with the correct VIN, but what they did with the VIN stamped on the strut tower was kind of neat:

Yep - they just crossed it out and put the correct one next to it!

Fortunately, all of this is well-documented, so it shouldn't cause me any headaches in the future, and it's kind of neat that my car has a story behind it.

Best of all, barring anything *really* strange happening, I should have my car in plenty of time for the Fall colour run this weekend.

That is a beautiful car, and the crossed out VIN is unique!  8)

Sure, Right, the builder changed the vin at the factory. Yea, they  just scratched through the first one and stamped a new one in.

Would you mind stepping out of the car sir? 119

And what size did you say those lug bolts are? 002

LOL!

I'll have to remember to check the lug bolts when I get the car home.  How funny would it be to have two '06 'S' Cabrios with different-sized lug bolts?

I think that is what you are going to have though. Not a problem until you need tuner bolts.

I am sure they will be available soon.

Love the car, I don't see how you will sleep until you can pick it up.

Want to sell your old mirror caps and the blue hood scoop?

I think Riqui is going to be happy keeping the Webspokes on her car, so I wonder what parts I'd have to swap around between the two cars to end up with the 14mm bolts on her car and the 12mm bolts on my car?  That would allow me to use all of the old wheels/accessories on the market.

I've asked Simon to save the old parts they're taking off, so if you're interested in the caps and scoop, I'm sure we can work something out.  I don't suppose you have a big cupholder with the dark-coloured bracket?  The one in my new car has the silver bracket, and I don't think it will match the carbon fiber downtubes I'm putting on.

As for sleeping, I have duty on the boat tomorrow, so that will keep me busy until Monday morning.  Then, I just have to make it until Monday evening.  Of course, all of this depends on the service department being able to do all the prep and dealer-installed options on Monday.

sorry Shawn - as much as we would love to do the Ferry run, that's the weekend my baby brother is getting married. Scott has been trying to figure out a way not to go and the Ferry run was a great excuse - just not great enough. We'll be in Texas so you'll have to wait a little while longer to see the Dutchman (current nick name for the Mythical Mini - now that it has appeared) if you aren't going to be on the Color run.

Peace,
Riqui

No worries Riqui, It will appear soon enough.  We won't be on the color run as that is the closing weekind for fall softball.

Shawn

P.S. Tell Scott I thought the Ferry Run was a good enough excuse!

Thanks. Figure out a price, and pm me.  :D

Sherry had a thought. Since your car was really built a month earlier, and then held for VIN changes, it is more likely to have the 12mm lug bolts. That will make life easier.  8)
