I just called Kramer to ask the price of 17" run flats and they are quoting over $1800 for four of their Eagles.  Obviously, that's a whole lot of dough for tires.  The Falkens, mentioned in another thread HERE at $75ea, are a LOT more attractive.  Of course, that leaves you in the lurch on a trip.

My '03 Cooper S is one of those built before the suspension was adjusted to handle the run flats.  If you remember from MINI lore, the run flats were a last-minute addition to the S and the suspension was never tweaked to handle the rigidity of the sidewalls.

What is everyone doing these days at replacement time?  Are you replacing with run flats or going with standard tires and taking your chances?  Replace before it is absolutely necessary and keep the run flats for trips?

Thanks for your input!

IMO, I would go with the Falkens and toss a can of fix-a-flat in the boot.

Get the tires from TireRack.com - or better, talk to Mike at Sports & Imports and have him get the tires from Tire Rack, shipped to him and have him mount them.  A fractoin of what you were quoted.

Many drop the run flats as even at the TR price they still cost at least twice what a not rf will.  I went with Yoko' ES100 in same size as stock 17's.  Bought a slime & pump kit from an autoparts store for less than $20 bucks....have not needed it in 15k miles.

Sports & Imports is a TireRack approved installer

Falkens from Edgeracing.com, two day delivery, installed at Joe's tires on
Virginia Beach blvd.

Can of flat fix, compressor and slime kit from Walmart. I also carry a plug kit.

Even if you stick to runflats, after about 50 miles running it with a flat
you need a new tire. Runflats get flats as often as regular tires, but you
can buy a replacement for the Falken at any medium sized town, not so
with runflats.

Just another option. Lots of folks on long runs like the dragon take a
spare tire with them. Lots of sharing between owners in a case like this.

Less than $900 at Tire Rack.
This is for the most expensive Dunlops. Other brands come in less than $800.
Another $100 tops for mounting, balancing, etc and you've saved a ton.

Couldn't find run flats at Edgeracing.

When we had the Perelli runflats replaced it cost us $800.00 for a set of four.  CF want $369.00 per tire. I had Billy from Joe's Tire order them and install them. I have since gone with the Goodyear Eagle GT1. They run about $700.00 for the whole set. I carry a repair kit and compressor in each car. The Goodyear tires helped to smooth out the ride. They are also the best rated wet and dry tire on the market. Give Billy a call at Joe's Tires. He can order anything you want.

These are the same ones I have. I think I called them the Eagle GT 1 by mistake in my previous post.
