Oh my....

I have a 100% record of getting post moved lately and am anxious to see where god moves this one!

The board lacks much activity today,  so let's see if I can stir some conversation.

How's your horn?

As some like Marty and Jenn have done - adding air horns is a cool thing esp if you think the standard horn is enimic...

I have done the horn swap thing a dozen times cuz I learned (while foolish enought to ride 'cicles) that having a serious horn can get the dummies out there to at least look for you.  If you sound like a Mack Truck you WILL get their attention.  My last bike had a big set of matched Italian horns that sounded like a big-rig...

Several years back I put a small set of air horns on my Miata.... loved 'em.  very sim' to what M & J have.  After about 18 months they crapped out....  I replaced the obviously defective set...18 months crapped out again.  They would 'squeek' not BLAST....  All this was on my Miata and exchanges there (Miata.net ... see the forums) confirm a better that 50% agreement.

On OC (my '79 Mini for those visitors) I really want air horns...but really need reliability.  I installed a set of big Hella matched hi-low electrics and toot toot = TOOT TOOT now.

(long lead in huh)

I recently was directed (via Miata.net ... good site ....) to look at
a one piece air horn that should fit in as a direct replacement for the MINI horn... http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Stebel11135&Category_Code

I have one on the Miata right now and since that car gets driven just a bit more than the Mini the class is out on the overall reaction.  On the plus side it is small and does have that 'air horn sound'.  My issue is: will it last?  I dunt no.  Frankly I'm testing it on the Miata cus vs the Mini & MINI, if a horn failure causes a crunch I'd rather it happened on that car.

And lastly (not too soon huh?) The Nautilus horn is very popular on motorcycle sites but I notice this amazingly similar horn avail locally:  http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94117

They have an Ohhh-Gaaa horn to ... I'm think of just going that route myself

(I also hve several old horns in the parts bin if U need one)

oh oh - last comment ... if you really want to REPLACE the existing horn (and this is reported on NAM to fit in the space)  the front bumper cover is coming off for the install....according to NAM

Funny, I was recently thinking I'd love a new horn.  The Mini deserves something more aggressive.  My Honda Van has a strange horn that hits this amazing tone that instantly incites people to violence.  It's seriously strange... I'll give it one of those friendly "hey, the lights changed 5 minutes ago, would you mind using your right foot please?" toots, and every person in range is instantly in the mood to run over babies with lawnmowers.  Thankfully there is usually a shortage of babies or nearby running mowers.

oh oh oh!!!! I have been saying since almost the day Fiona came home that I wanted a horn to match her attitude (she's got a BIG attitude!) And one of the things I said I would like to have as an AhOHHH-Gaaaaa horn!!!!! I think I know Scott's next mod on Fiona! (BTW - he did my pully this weekend - haven't had the chance to get a ticket YET!)

Peace,
Riqui

At the dragon last year, there was a guy from Atlanta that had his mini painted like the General Lee (Dukes of Hazzards for the young kids).  He called it the Mini Lee and had the horn to go with it.  Since then, I just couldn't see anything topping that one.  It was pretty cool, I think everyone loved it.  I probably have pics of the car laying around that i will look for later.
