Since that radio is only available in the GP as far as I know, and is really not a great radio, I think we will keep it for reinstallation when Sherry gets the wild hair to trade again.  119

I never thought that the Euro radio was as good as the US Boost one. Not that it means anything, it is made in Poland.

I like the one in the Cabrio lots better. The GP only has front speakers, so I don't know what the internal lashup is in that radio.

What did you have in mind for it Carl? You know it only works in a MINI? Reads the VIN on power up.

I like the Garmin 2720 which is the 2730 without the mp3 player. Sherry wanted the larger screen, and the parking lot security of the in dash mount.

If you can see the smaller screens, there are lots of great units out there in the low $3xx range. Shirt pocket size, just take them out and carry them with you when you are worried about parking lot security.  8)

That's interesting - I have the "Euro" radio in my Cabrio (Sept '06 build).  I think we'll start seeing it in a lot more U.S. cars as MINI tries to deplete the stock they have on hand, since they're going with the integrated head unit for the '07 coupes.

Riqui and I both have the Harmon/Kardon systems, and the only difference between our two systems are the head units.  Both units have the same buttons, functions and features - the buttons are just differently-shaped and arranged differently on the face.

With identical equalizer setting on our radios, they both sound the same to me.  If anything, the Euro head unit might have a smidge more well-defined bass, but if there's a difference, it's minor.

Regardless, the AVIC installation looks great!  I hope you found the correct speed-sensing wire and that the calibration goes well.

I was thinking if you wer'nt going to do anything with it. That we could switch head units. Theres not alot around and it would be something diferent. Just a thought.  002

Scott, that's the same thing I thought about that radio in the GP. No big deal, just using up available stock.

Took Fuzzy many hours and bleeding hands. He worked on it every evening for a week, and two weekend days. But a lot of it was learning curve.

The key to the sound difference Scott, is probably the lack of rear speakers and insulation in the GP. I also think that they were just using up the available stock in hand.

Someone on a thread long, long ago and far, far away, at least in my head, that the Euro/US/etc was a switch setting in the head unit. That would make sense.

My dislike of the Euro one is that the big gulp holder was in the way of the fwd/reverse/eject buttons. Priorities.  002
